In October we took a road trip to Washington state to visit Mike's sister Amber and her family. On our way up there, we stopped in Paul, Idaho to visit Mike's Grandpa EJ, who Evera was named after.
It was so good to get to spend time with Grandpa EJ and also Grandma Mary. Melia sang a song to Grandpa, and he gave her all his undivided attention. He was so sweet.
Grandpa loved talking to Mike and totally teared up when he talked about his amazing legacy and how proud he is of all his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He even teared up about them and about how he's certain it wasn't all him and that his first and second wife, Anne and Norma were watching from the other side and helping out. It was so sweet.
We had to get pictures of Evera with his namesake. :) Grandpa EJ is named Evera Junior, after his father, Evera. Our little Evera is named Evera Jett after both of them, and also carries the initials EJ.
We didn't want to leave Melia out, so we had to get pictures of her with Grandma Mary. Melia was named after MY grandmother, Mary Virginia (who went by Virginia). Melia's name is Melia Virginia, and Melia actually means Mary in Hawaiian (but we used the Spanish spelling). So, while she was not actually NAMED after Grandma Mary, it was fun to tell her that her name, Melia, means "Mary."
We also got pictures of Evera holding this picture of Grandpa Evera (Grandpa EJ's dad). That is Evera's great-great-grandfather.
I am so glad that we got one last chance to visit with Grandpa EJ.
Just one short month after our visit, Grandpa EJ died. He truly was an incredible man. He served in the church his whole life. He served one full time mission and two more couples missions. He held many callings in the church including branch president, bishop, counselor in the stake presidency, and stake patriarch. He has 7 children of his own, and and added 11 more step-children into the family through marriage. He has 92 grandchildren; 237 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren (and still counting). He is an amazing man who leaves behind an incredible legacy. We love you Grandpa EJ!
